E-Bus Grant for 5J
We’re proud to share that Weld RE-5J has been awarded over $2.5 million in grants to receive six electric school buses, chargers, and emergency-ready infrastructure—at zero cost to taxpayers.
Thanks to Xcel Energy, the World Resources Institute, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, our district will soon be operating electric buses that not only serve students, but can also power emergency shelters during outages.
This first-of-its-kind project in Colorado helps us:
- Lower emissions
- Save taxpayer dollars
- Strengthen community resilience
We plan to have these buses rolling by the 2026–2027 school year, and we couldn’t be more excited to be part of something so impactful for our students and community.
