Multilingual Learning

Weld County School District RE-5J is committed to a comprehensive K–12 program for Multilingual Learners that ensures equitable access to grade-level curriculum. Our services are aligned with the Colorado English Language Proficiency (CELP) Standards and the Colorado Academic Standards, and are informed by language assessment data and individual student needs.

RE-5J values the cultural and linguistic assets that Multilingual Learners bring to our schools and recognizes these strengths as essential to our learning community. Supporting ML students is a district-wide responsibility, and we are proud to help every student learn, grow, and fully participate in school. We provide evidence-based English Language Development practices, targeted accommodations, coordinated staff collaboration, strong family partnerships, interpretation and translation services, sustained professional development, and administrative oversight.

This webpage is reviewed and updated every year to make sure information stays accurate.

Our students that are multilingual selected their favorite recipes from home and created posters of them. Students described the taste and texture of the dish as well as why they chose the recipe. They presented their posters to 1st and 2nd grade classes. Then students presented their posters to their families and shared their foods with each other. It was a great (and delicious) cultural exchange!
