Early Learning Shines at MES
Allowing a refresh to brighten up a Pre-K-2 campus for growth, curiosity, and joy.
Milliken Elementary School is proud to be part of a transformation that better serves our growing community. With the former Milliken Middle School converted into Milliken Intermediate School, students in grades 3–5 now have a beautifully renovated space to learn and thrive. This exciting change opened the door for us to expand early childhood education—growing from two to five Pre-K classrooms, including two full-day programs, a first for Weld RE-5J.
Our youngest learners, in Pre-K to 2nd grade, enjoy a safer, nurturing environment designed around their unique needs and promoting academic growth. Renovations encourage collaboration and inquiry through enhanced learning spaces with natural light, calming neurological color palettes to support focus, and age appropriate new furniture. We upgraded lighting to energy- efficient LED, improved sound control, added modern infrastructure—from HVAC and Wi-Fi–and a secure front vestibule for safety. The improvements create the environments for student growth and learning at deep levels.
Outside, the Early Childhood Center and east playground were completely renovated, creating fun, functional spaces for learning beyond the classroom walls. These improvements ensure that every child starts strong in a community that values growth and connection.
- Expanded Milliken Early Learning Center: Added space and a renovation of the east playground for Pre-K students.
- Learning Space Enhancements: New furniture, updated lighting, improved acoustics, and increased natural light throughout classrooms.
- Infrastructure & Safety Upgrades: Interior and exterior building renovations for durability and modern appeal. Safety and security improvements, including a redesigned front vestibule for secure entry. Upgraded Wi-Fi for reliable connectivity. HVAC improvements for better air quality and comfort.
As they walk through the completed building, our students can touch the brick from the original building that their parents (and grandparents) touched, dine in an updated cafeteria, and learn in classrooms that inspire innovation and curiosity.”
