State of 5J Episode 3 - College and Career Readiness
Weld RE-5J School District is committed to preparing students for success in both college and careers by providing early and sustained exposure to a wide range of postsecondary options. Beginning in elementary school and continuing through high school, students explore career interests and develop an individualized four-year academic and career plan aligned to their strengths and goals.
Thank you to our community and voters for passing the 2020 Bond to provide real-world spaces for college and career preparation and the 2020 Mill Levy Override to support programming, staffing, and equipment. Our 5J students will continue making impacts across our community due to the investment in their experiences now.
The heart of opportunities for 5J students are the College and Career Pathways, which include robust Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
During the 2025–26 school year alone, Weld RE-5J students earned 3,324 college credits through Concurrent Enrollment. Based on the 2025–26 resident tuition rates of the colleges and universities awarding those credits, those opportunities represented approximately $612,000 in tuition costs that students and families did not have to pay. (This is based upon the rate students would have to pay- not the discounted rates that we pay.)
Current Career and Technical Student Organizations include: Successful Career Students of Colorado, Future Farmers of America (FFA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Technology Student Association (TSA), SkillsUSA, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), and HOSA - Future Health Professional.
