At the 98th National FFA convention in Indianapolis, the Riders earned Bronze honors. Individual honors went to Dakota Bernard (Silver), Markus Gardner (Silver), Ella Stirewalt (Silver), and Maylin Bernard (Bronze).

Chad Walker

The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) is pleased to announce that Chad Walker has been recognized by the NIAAA as a Certified Athletic Administrator.

To earn this distinction, Chad Walker has demonstrated the highest level of knowledge and expertise in the field of interscholastic athletic administration. The voluntary certification process included a thorough evaluation of the candidate's educational background, experience, and professional contributions, as well as a rigorous, comprehensive written examination.

Chad Walker is one of an elite group of interscholastic athletic administrators nationwide to attain this level of professionalism.

Thank you, Chad, for modeling RESPONSIBLE and INNOVATIVE leadership to grow our activities and athletics programs across the entire district.

Board meeting picture for recognizing a teacher

Jazmine Zuniga: Earlier this July, ag educators from across Colorado gathered in Rifle for the annual Colorado Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association (CVATA) Summer Conference. Congratulations to Ms. Jazmine Zuniga, Roosevelt High School ag teacher and FFA advisor, who was recognized for completing five years of dedicated service AND was named the CVATA Outstanding Early Career Teacher. Jazmine was honored for her exceptional work in the classroom, her leadership in FFA, and her service to CVATA—including roles as a committee chair and the FFA Foundation Representative. Her passion and impact continue to make a powerful difference in the lives of students and the future of ag education.

Thank you, Ms. Zuniga, for modeling RESOURCEFULNESS and RELATIONAL leadership to ensure student success, hands-on learning, and agricultural exposure.

Brent Hopkins: Mr. Brent Hopkins has been named the 2025 Colorado John Knaub Outstanding Agricultural Teacher. Mr. Hopkins has built one of the most successful and inspiring FFA programs in the state—leading students to state and national championships, supporting 27 State FFA Degree recipients and 3 American Degree recipients since 2020, and shaping the futures of countless students along the way.

Weld RE-5J Superintendent Student Advisory Board

Superintendent Advisory Board: Starting in the 2024-2025 school year, Superintendent Scott Nielsen and Assistant Superintendent Tami Kramer met with students from Roosevelt High School to hear student voice to improve experiences across the school system.

Student members of the board appreciate the engagement and opportunity for positive change. The Student Advisory Board advocacy has led to higher student involvement in activities across the school and increase in direct support from school counselors. The members look forward to the ongoing engagement and leadership opportunities.

Maile Sedey and Emma Jex: We are proud to recognize RHS students that made it to Nationals for HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). The HOSA mission is to empower students who are preparing for careers in the health professions. HOSA supports students through leadership development, skill-building, and competitive events related to health science careers.

Maile Sedey’s event was Clinical Specialty and Maile received high praise from judges at her second year at the International Leadership Conference. Last year was Maile’s second year in HOSe and is serve as our chapter’s vice president.
Emma Jex’s event was Researched Persuasive Writing and Speaking. Emma placed 4th at Nationals. Last year was Emma’ first year in HOSA and she is now serving as our chapter president.

Future Business Leaders of America

We are thrilled to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of our 9 Roosevelt High School FBLA students who attended the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, CA from June 27 to July 3!
Attendance: Our students participated in this incredible event alongside 15,000 members from across the nation, showcasing their dedication and commitment to leadership and business.

Future Business Leaders of America - RMS: 15 amazing RMS students traveled to the 2025 FBLA National Leadership Conference. Led by Mr. Nick Nunley, Roosevelt Middle School’s Business Teacher and FBLA Advisor, our chapter represented Colorado with pride—and two students finished in the TOP TEN NATIONALLY!

Ethan Zeyte (7th Grade) took 2nd place in the Financial Literacy event, showing off his sharp money smarts and focus.
Holly Boresen (8th Grade) earned 4th place in Community Service Presentation, wowing judges with her passion and public speaking skills.

“We are incredibly proud of the hard work and professionalism displayed by our entire chapter,” said Mr. Nunley. “Their success is the result of months of growth and determination!” We couldn’t be prouder of these future business leaders! Thank you to Mr. Nunley for his leadership and to our students for representing Roosevelt Middle School and Weld RE-5J School District with excellence.

Future Business Leaders of America - RHS: Students attending the 2025 FBLA National Leadership Conference competed in leadership events and activities, listened to dynamic workshop presentations, shared their successes, and learned new ideas about shaping their career future through workshops and exhibits.

Voting Delegates: A special shoutout to our 3 voting delegates who played a crucial role in electing the National Officers for the 2025-26 program year. Your leadership is truly commendable!
Competition: While none of our students made it to the stage this year, their hard work and determination in such a competitive environment were nothing short of impressive. The experience gained is invaluable! They competed in objective tests, Role Plays, and gave Presentations.
Workshops: Our students attended a variety of engaging workshops, including a Leadership session, College Application Readiness session, Shark Tank session and a state officer networking session where they connected with state officers from around the country. These interactions fostered valuable relationships and insights!
Pin Trading: A highlight of the conference was pin trading, an exciting tradition that encourages students to step out of their comfort zones and meet peers from across the nation. This activity builds self-confidence and helps students grow tremendously over the years.
Colorado Representation: We’re also proud to highlight that 50 students from Colorado placed in the top 10, demonstrating the fierce competition our students faced at the conference.

CASB McGuffey Award

The Colorado Association of School Boards McGuffey Award is an annual recognition for Colorado school board members who demonstrate committed and passionate service beyond their standard duties. Award recipients are selected for their positive engagement, community service, leadership in achieving district milestones, and ongoing professional development, all with a consistent focus on benefiting all students in their district.
